This weeks episode includes details on a branding breakfast we attended, how authenticity affects your brand, client meetings, and how #MankatoMediaMen will be changing gears over the next few weeks.

Mike and I attended a marketing seminar lead by Dan Wallace of Idea Food in Edina Minnesota. This seminar covered a lot of Marketing theory dating from the Roman days all the way up to Whole Foods! We learned a few things from the group of seasoned marketing veterans. One big take away from the seminar was authenticity. The event facilitator brought up the millennial  generation multiple times and I felt compelled to chime in with my two cents.

“Millennial’s have tremendous bullshit radar.” I announced to the room of 60 year old lawyers and marketing executives. “We thrive on authenticity. If you are selling us, we will know in the first three seconds. If you want our attention, if you want to build a lasting community, if you want to develop a customer base, you need to provide value to your target audience.”

This 90 second speech made some waves. We ended up leaving the seminar with a pocketful of business cards and a couple potential clients. We are currently in talks with a larger sized financial firm headquartered out of Minneapolis with offices across the country. We have also had meetings with Simply Delicious in the Mankato Place Mall and BG Enterprises, a local real estate company, and have established ourselves as their agency of record.

As we have immersed ourselves in the world of social media advertising, we have learned that great work requires a large amount of time and energy. It is through this revelation that we have decided to change the format of the #MankatoMediaMen show to once a week. We will continue to do business spotlights, but on a once a month basis.
